Rustic Southland Farm Wedding in the Rain – Molly & James at Shalimar Farm
The Story.
Molly and James were married on the 8th of March 2025 at Shalimar Farm, James’s family property tucked into the hills of Wyndham, Southland. The lead-up to the day brought plenty of rain, but these two fully embraced it and made the most of every moment.
Molly got ready at a beautiful white Airbnb in Mataura, filled with soft light, large mirrors, and the quiet excitement of her bridesmaids. One of her must-have photos was her bouquet tucked inside her cowgirl boots, a perfect match for her rustic-country style. Meanwhile, James prepared at his childhood home, helping his groomsmen into their suits and boutonnieres in the cozy family lounge.
Despite the weather, we found a clear window for their first look outdoors with the green hills behind them. It was peaceful and heartfelt. Molly also shared a special first look with her dad, which made for one of the most emotional moments of the day. After that, we captured some beautiful couple portraits before jumping into four-wheel drives to head up into the hills for bridal party photos. The rain arrived just in time to send us all running back to the trucks, laughing and soaked.
The ceremony was held inside a stretch tent down in the lower paddock. Heaters and soft lighting created a warm, intimate space. Guests sat facing out toward the hills, with Molly and James saying their vows surrounded by the land that means so much to them. We captured candid moments with their guests and finished with family group photos looking out from the marquee.
This day had everything that matters. Real love, wild weather, and the perfect blend of beauty and meaning.
